Announcement and Giant

My sisters and I went to Giant today. As soon as we got out of the car, this is what we heard.

Announcer: Attention staff from the ladies depart. Staff from the ladies depart.
The three of us: Aaa? Depart? Ape tu? Hahahaha.
Announcer: Attention staff from the ladies depart.
The three of us: Hahahahahaha.
Me: Depart pegi mane ni weh?

And this, when we got out of Giant.

Me: Takde announcement ke ni? Hahaha.
In an instant.
Announcer: Attention staff from the cashier depart. Mr F****** from cashier depart.
Jaja: Haa tu. Hahahahahaha. Nak sangat.

And I remember the time Jaja and I went there a few months ago.

Announcer: Attention to all customer, Giant will be opened until twels midnights tonight.
Both of us: Twels midnights? Hahahaha.

No, I didn’t mean to laugh. But come to think of it, you need to make announcement using the right words and the right pronounciation. Depart, maybe a short one for department. But depart has another meaning. And, twels midnights? I just can’t help but to laugh.

Fresh from bed.

Coincidence? Maybe. This is entry number 150, the first one since thelilmindofmine has a new appearance. Pure coolness. Haha. Well, I was already bored with the green layout I had previously, and changing the blog colour to pink-purple doesn’t really do any good either. Thus, the new layout.

I am now back in IPBA after one good break despite the fact that I fell ill a few days ago and still have to swallow the antibiotics prescribed by the doctor. I blame the weather in the northern part of Malaysia for my sickness. Haha.

So how did I spend my one week break?

I voted for the first time during the recent general election. Auntie Kiah made my day a few hours before the voting took place. I had just woken up and went straight to the door to have a chat with Auntie, Uncle, Azhar and Mama.

Auntie: Eh, ada orang potong rambut lah. Comelnya.
Alin: (Dalam hati berkata-kata, ‘dah lama potong la’, tersenyum-senyum sipu).
Auntie: Orang kata, kalau nak tengok someone tu lawa ke comel ke tak, tengoklah time orang tu baru bangun tido.
Alin: Maknanya, Alin comel lah ni?
Auntie: Comel.
Alin: Alah lah (tersipu-sipu senyum lagi).

Haha. A good start for the day eh? So, the day continued and I went to cast my vote in SK St Francis. I was too tired to wait for the results so I asked Azwan to give me all the updates. Travelled to Guar Chempedak on the next day to attend Wani’s wedding and arrived just in time for her akad nikah. FYI, I sat on her left side through the whole akad process. Ambik berkat eh. Spend a few hours at her house while waiting for other friends to arrive. The boys wanted to go to Penang and we decided to come along. Another ferry ride after 15 years. Macam jakun sikit naik feri. Haha. So after another night spent at Chinot’s house, I returned home. My nose started bleeding the next day, not dripping blood kind of thing, but everytime I sneeze, there’s blood in the mucus. I was flat for the next two days, was down with fever and almost had an asthma attack. Thank God for precaution pills.

On Thursday, I felt better and since it was Mama’s birthday, I bought her a cake, Mango Delight from Secret Recipe. We went to KL on Friday, Jaja had cooked dinner so we invited Mak Cu and co. as well. Travelled to Melaka the next day to visit Arep, and had lunch at Kenny Rogers. Came back, had a short rest and had a dinner treat at TGI Friday Subang Parade. Thanks to Mak Cu and Celcom. Mak Cu was given a bonus, you see. Haha. This morning, we went to Amcorp Mall. Mama was looking for brooches or sepit rambut kind of things to wear with her headscarves but she ended up buying something else. I didn’t buy anything except for Caramel Creme Frap from Starbucks. Back in IPBA, I spent a few hours moping and tidying up my locker, had lunch, and did the whole blog layout thingy. And, here I am.

So, tomorrow is another day of lectures. Back to reality of life. Busy-ness and hangin-ness.

Pangkah Shudah.

Sheleshai lah shudah tanggung jawab untuk hari ini. Dah pangkah dah. Jam 10.40 tadi pegi. Pukul 11 dah beratur nak cuci kereta. Sekejap sahaja. Nak masuk pintu pagar St. Francis tadi ada nyonya datang approach. ‘Amoi, undi BN ya. Dua-dua BN.’ Ye lah nyonya. Tengoklah nanti. Haha.

Shekarang menunggu masa untuk bergerak ke Butterworth pulak. Ada walimah di Guar Chempedak. Tak jadi naik bas. Tiket bas dah jual balik. Dapat balik RM10. Pegi sana tumpang Uncle Tamjis dengan Aunty Kiah. Uncle dengan Aunty nak ngundi kat Butterworth. Azhar jadi driver. Tiket pon Azhar tolong jualkan balik tadi.

Ini nak pegi walimah jauh-jauh, walimah depan rumah tak pegi. Esok juga. Shudah nampak pengantin lelakinya berus lantai rumah. Khemah dah siap pacak pon. Malam tadi sampai sudah ada. Ada enam khemah semuanya. Reverse kereta kena hati-hati. Langgar pagar sampai patah takpe lagi. Buat pagar baru terush. Kalau langgar tiang khemah shushah. Parah. Rosak walimah orang nanti.

Shudahlah. Ini hanyalah rant sahaja. Sudah lama tak berupdate. Nanti pulang dari walimah Wani baru update lagilah. Kalau rajin.

Welcome 2008.

2008 is going to end its first day of the year. To tell you the truth, I have no new year resolutions. Well, I had one, but it was destroyed as soon as my cousin switched to one of the channels that highlighted new year concert/celebration. The resolution was not to watch any new year concert/celebration/countdown.

Since I have no new year resolutions, I am just going to reflect last year’s resolution.

Well, I was cheated by some group of men, (resolution #1 does not mean in the world of ‘percintaan’, but by any man). The computer/maintenance people did not come when they said they will. I eventually did some dieting (didn’t turn out well, by the way). I still procrastinate (started TECC assignment 3 days before the handing in date, not to forget the non-sleeping Sunday nights/Monday mornings so that I can hand in the drafts of the dissertation by Monday noon). I think I did more reading, especially for the Comparative Education module. I stopped doing my reading log a few days after resolution #5 was made. I did not exercise, well, I considered shopping as exercising. So, at least I may have burnt some fat. I did stop complaining, and whenever I started to complain about things, I remind myself to stop. I did do things sincerely, though at times I still feel irritated as I was the only one doing certain things. I did not manage to travel to other places. I did get a part time job as a student ambassador and a mail sorter. I did find some time every day to read the Quran after Maghrib or Isya’, but I did not read the translation to the verses. Finally, I don’t know whether I have become a better person inside out. That, I have to ask opinion of others. 😀

So, I still have no new year resolution. Everyday is a new day anyway, so you can make new resolution every day as you wish.

On a serious side.

I was fairly disappointed with the kind of celebrations that we have in our country. Concerts, gathering of men and women, countdowns, etc. It does not reflect the Islamic country that we claim ourselves to be. Yesterday itself, there was about 4 to 5 concerts being aired on the television, and those concerts were in KL alone. And in today’s Harian Metro, there was a full page coverage on the celebration and only a small section on the Bacaan Yassin to welcome the new year in Melaka. There was an Islamic forum and nasyid performance held in the mosque next to KLCC, but I guess some people would prefer to choose to attend the concert at KLCC, for it was the entertainment that they were looking for. Buletin Utama highlighted that social problems have emerged each and everytime new year is celebrated. Well, it is pretty clear anyway. These problems emerged every year but still we still have concerts and celebrations to welcome the new year. You know the impacts of these sorts of events but you still hold it anyway. So why bother saying that we still have the ‘ketimuran‘ in us, when everything that we do is all ‘kebaratan‘.

And there’s this sending mat rempit to Kutub Utara by Pemuda UMNO. ??!!??. And a plan to use mat rempits to bring the voters to the voting centres in the next election. Again, ??!!??. May I suggest that we recruit all these mat rempits to become delivery guy for Mcdonalds, KFCs and Pizza Huts. Or FedEx, Nationwide Express, DHL, UPS can recruit them as despatchers. Maybe all the kedai mamak can have their own delivery guy too. At least these mat rempits have a long term job, rather than something that they will do only once in five years.

Let us see what kind of news we are going to get tomorrow. And I’m sure we all gonna be surprised, well, maybe not.

Happy new year.

December issue.

What will happen in the next few weeks?

  • I’m starting my job as a mail sorter in Royal Mail on Monday, a week earlier than expected. I hope that it will be less tiring than last year now that I am on the afternoon shift. Night shift was crazy. It took me three days just to adjust my sleeping pattern.
  • I will be on a trip to London next weekend.
  • I have another assignment to hand in on Friday the 7th of December.
  • An exam on the 10th of December.
  • I will be off the job on the 21st of December, just in time to get some last minute shopping before flying home.
  • I’ll ship the rest of my stuff on the 26th of December and I hope that I will only need to ship two boxes. But I doubt it.
  • Finally, I will be flying home on the 28th December at 10pm (UK time). This time it’s back for good. Yay!

Hope that everything will go well as planned. Can’t wait to be home, nak ziarah kubur daddy. 🙂

p/s: I’ve handed in the dissertation. What a relief. Not forgetting the fact that my HDD broke down a week before dateline which results in re-typing almost 75% of the dissertation.

Bye bye dissey.

pp/s: By the way, this is entry number 120. I missed thelilmindofmine’s 1st birthday as well as the 100th entry. 120 pon boleh lah. Hehe.
